It is imperative that you INTERVIEW anyone you are consulting for assistance in the buying or refinancing process; How long have you been in the business, are they a bank or broker, and do they have a local underwriter and funder in their office. Also, you should be able to get an interest rate quote in the first 5 MINUTES you speak to someone. Lastly, when mortgage shopping make sure to get quotes from your prospective lenders within the same hour of each other. With the volatile market, rates change daily, so be prepared for that.
